The real Ruususuola (Rose Salt) — in Finland since 2002
Ruususuola is a crystal salt mined by hand in the Bolivian highlands. The blocks are carefully selected, hand-worked and broken into smaller pieces, then rinsed and ground. The name Ruususuola (“Rose Salt”) comes from its reddish colour, created by manganese and iron, among others.
The professionals’ quiet secret
A fisherman once called us, almost annoyed. “Now I know why my buddy’s fish tastes better than mine — he’s been hiding this from me for years.” He had finally found out the secret was Bolivian Ruususuola. On that same call he ordered five kilos.
He isn’t the only one. Many professional fishermen and hunters use our Bolivian Ruususuola for the same reason: it gives the ingredient an exceptionally soft, rounded flavour.
We once found a Christmas-ham maker who prepared his ham with Bolivian Ruususuola. It was the best ham I have ever eaten — and I noticed something else too: in the morning there was none of that heavy feeling I recognise from an over-salty evening. I don’t know what caused it, but I have never forgotten the taste.
